The coronavirus pandemic has forced changes in many areas of life. See how this has affected the attitude towards health. The pandemic of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes covid-19, has turned many people’s lives upside down. The introduction of restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of the pathogen, as well as the fear of infection, made to take a different approach to their own health.

Self-isolation orders, remote work, school absences, restrictions on public events, travel bans, quarantine and other restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic have changed the daily habits of many people, as well as family and professional life. In many cases, this situation has somehow forced an analysis of its hierarchy of values. Some people slowed down a bit and changed their approach to many things-including health. This is shown by the results of our survey.

What is the approach to coronavirus?

The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic was declared on 11 March 2020 by the World Health Organisation. On the same day in many countries, including Poland, were announced various preventive measures. An educational campaign on how to take care of hygiene in order to reduce the risk of infection was also launched. Over time, exacerbations have decreased. People’s attitudes have also changed. However, this does not mean that the coronavirus is no longer a threat.

cugh2019According to the results of our research, more than half of Poles are still afraid of the new coronavirus. The same group declares that it strictly adheres to all recommendations and takes precautions. The vast majority are over 50. one year old. The most commonly cited reasons why a large group of people still fear coronavirus infection are:

  • ease of infection (coronavirus is transmitted by airborne droplets from a sick person to a healthy one)
  • difficulties in identifying the patient (many people are asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus)
  • irresponsibility of others
  • non-compliance with hygiene rules by other people.

In the same study, as many as 68% of people admit that they have become accustomed to the coronavirus pandemic. In contrast, 64% of respondents no longer want to hear any information on this subject. Conclusions about the approach to coronavirus can also be drawn on the basis of interest in insurance. One in two people who do not currently have a life insurance policy is considering buying one. This follows not only from our research, but also from the monitoring of the insurance market Kantar. Interestingly, as many as 31% of people are looking for insurance that is dedicated only to coronavirus. 43% of policy holders consider buying additional protection.

Changing the attitude to health during the epidemic

During the coronavirus epidemic, changed their general approach to health-not only do they think about it more often, but they are also interested in prevention. You can also see this in the actions of many people who used the lockdown time to change their lifestyle.

How does an epidemic affect your health?During the coronavirus pandemic, many people started to look at their eating habits. This was influenced by more time to cook and eat meals at regular intervals. They also began to look for natural ways to increase immunity, thereby including fresh vegetables and fruits in the diet, as well as natural antibiotics (m.in. garlic).

Positive lifestyle changes could also be seen when social distance recommendations were introduced. Many people began to spend more time in nature, especially in parks and forests. Such actions have a positive effect not only on the immune system, but on the whole organism. Many people also declare that during the pandemic they found more time to rest, sleep and slow down the pace of life.

How does an epidemic affect your health?

Unfortunately, not everyone changed their lifestyle during the pandemic. More than half of respondents say that the lifestyle they lead since March, increases the risk of contracting diseases of civilization. It is primarily about:

  • restriction of outdoor movement,
  • lack of opportunities to attend training and sports activities,
  • eating stress with salty snacks and sweets,
  • stress,
  • sedentary lifestyle (due to lack of work or the need for remote work).

These factors increase the risk of hypertension, insulin resistance, movement disorders, obesity and diabetes. As many as 38% of respondents declare their fears about the latter (a significant increase compared to the pre-pandemic studies-only 4% of people reported concerns at that time). For this reason, there is increasing interest in buying a life insurance policy-in particular, diabetes insurance or insurance in case of serious illness.
