SATELLITE DESCRIPTION
Global health leadership, imbedded in societal wide norms and bias, remains inequitable, particularly for women and other diverse people. Transforming leadership in global health through individual and institutional practices can advance greater equity and promote smarter global health. Specifically, gender equality in global health leadership means that women, men, and other genders, across the life course and in all their diversity, are able to realize their full rights and reach their maximum leadership potential to shape the health and development agenda.
This half a day, satellite session aims to build and strengthen a community of committed, empowered individuals and institutions to promote a culture of gender equality, diversity and inclusion in the academic global community. Attendees will be introduced professional coaching, encouraged to exchange ideas on how to address and eliminate barriers that impact gender and broader diversity in global health professionals and to identify mentors and colleagues through multidisciplinary, multispecialty collaborations.
This event builds on the efforts of Women in Global Health (WGH), Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), through their working group Gender Equality Matters in Academia, and Stanford University Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH).

SATELLITE OBJECTIVES
  • To promote a culture of gender equality in academic global health
  • To build community and encourage the exchange of ideas among like-minded individuals, regardless of gender and broader diversity, who seek to eliminate the gender gap within global academia
  • To promote professional development and empowerment by identifying opportunities for networking, mentorship and multidisciplinary, multispecialty collaborations
